The game isn't over yet, according to the clock. The score sez other wise. The Jets just score another field goal. 26-3, Jets. I come into this game wearing my #56 personalized jersey, I started the pit, and was excited about the possibility of a Texans win. Why wouldn't I think this? They played Buffalo well. In general, they haven't played bad. Until today!!! Carr is playing horrible. And here he comes out again. Today, they need to bring out Rosenfels. He can't do much worse. Anyway, ... This team has many needs. The secondary needs to be a priority this off season. They are playing like a loaf of toast bread, BURNT toast!!! The only bright spot so far is Ryans. He is doing well, but when you are out on the field this long, you better get tackles. I am getting tired of these dump passes. Why is it that the Texans keep on with the dump passes, but other teams, not only the Jets, can keep throwing down field? I know why... The secondary and the quarterback. This is just frustrating. I am now wearing a black Nike shirt, ate, and now pissed. Am I a die hard Texan fan? Yes I am!!! I am tired of dying though!!! ANOTHER sack!!! Number 4 today. ...3rd and goal... TD, Johnson!!! wow, 26-10, with 3:54 to go. 1 TD in 20 Quarters... What a QB!!!! 2 point conversion good...26-11. They are on a comeback!!! OK, sarcasm. Sorry. Maybe next week.

Astros, College Football, and Daughters Boyfriend

Carlos Lee and Woody Williams? Are you freaking kidding me? The Astros actually landed some good free agents? Of course they did!!! I hate when I hear people say that Drayton McLane does not spend the money to make this team competitive. When he first bought the team, he signed Drabek and Swindell. They were pitchers who were at the top of the free agency list back then. Then he gets players like Randy Johnson, Carlos Beltran, Moises Alou, Andy Petitte, and Roger Clemens throughout the years. Do they try to resign the players? Yes they do. Some resign, and some take the money and run. It just doesn't work out sometimes. Baseball is a business. But, of all things, DO NOT say that the Astros owner is not committed to winning. Woody Williams has been an Astro killer for years. I am glad to see him on the team. He has some age to him, but I think he will do well mentoring some of the young pitchers that are coming up for the team. So now, The rotation looks like this... Oswalt, Williams, ...uh, uh, oookay, not sure after that. Hopefully the new pitching coach can make some changes with the young guys. Carlos Lee is a welcome addition to this team. Now there are two legitimate power threats in the middle of the line up. IF Ensberg comes back and plays the way he did in 05 and if Luke Scott plays the way he did, this team should improve on the offensive side. Lee could provide another 40 homers and 110 RBI's to this team. Good moves Astros. I honestly didn't think they would sign with the team. Not because of your lack of trying, but because of teams like the Yankees, Mets, and even Orioles throwing out bigger money. Good job, Tim Purpura, for making these moves and getting out of the shadows of the last GM. Let's get another pitcher and maybe make a move or two more and make this team a stronger contender!!!

How about those Aggies taking care of the Longhorns? I have to be honest, i did not watch the game, because i was doing family things. The first thing i did when i walked in the house was turn ESPN on and look for the score. Aggie 12 Longhorns 7. WHAT? It must be the 3rd or fourth quarter. I looked.... final. WOW!!! The rise and fall of two texas college powers. I hate to see the Longhorns fall, but it is good to see the Aggies winning.

Does everyone really want to see a Ohio State and Michigan rematch? I am not sure that would be a good thing for college football. I was all for it till i heard on one of the sports talk shows (I think Jim Rome) talk about it being fair to Ohio State. They beat Michigan. Why should they go in and have to repeat a victory to become national champions? They beat Michigan. It should be, who is next? USC? or who ever is number 3 or whoever is next AFTER Ohio who isn't Michigan. Michigan had their chance. They blew it. I want to see a new team play for it now. If it was two out of three then it would be different. But it is not. It is one game. one game to decide who the champion is. Michigan, I now believe, should not be involved.

Ok, I am sure every parent out there can relate to this. I met my daughters boyfriend for the first time last night. Now, as a parent, we all want the best for our kids. I have always taught my kids that I don't care who they are with as long as they treat them right. I now know i have some prejudices in me. Not with color of skin, religion, or anything like that, but with stupidity. My daughter is a very intellegent, strong minded little woman. I never thought that should would fall for some boy like this. Now, looks are not everything. this kid was dressed with baggy clothes, but nice to what is in today, i guess. When he introduced himself, i didn't know if this kid was just, not playing with a full deck, or high. He was like my name is (Last name, first name and then lastname again) I was like okay, nice to meet you. So we are asking him the usual parent questions, like school, and stuff, and he must have forgot he wasn't talking to his friends. Now, i remember back in the day watching the old Leave it to Beaver re-runs and remembering Eddie Haskell talking to June and Ward with respect and stuff and them going back upstairs and talking to his buds differently. Who has not done that? I am not saying kiss butt or anything, but you talk to "grown ups" (especially your girlfriends parents) different than you do your friends. So i asked the kid, what grade are you in. He said i WAS in 10th. (My daughter is a freshman) I told him WAS? he said yeah, i don't go to school anymore. After the questions to why and all that, my wife asked him so what do you do now? In my mind, i am like "are you slinging drugs?" but, i remain cool. He said this... almost verbatim..."I just chill, but i ain't trippin', cuz i am gonna go work with my dad when i turn 18. i am gonna go get my GED and stuff." I wanted to strangle the kid!!! So i asked, oh yeah, what does your dad do? "i don't know, (Pause) he paints and stuff like that. but i ain't tripping." Now, I think it is a good trade being a painter and remodeling and stuff, but do you have to be 18 to do this? This kid, boy, is 16. No ambition, can barely talk right, and is with my daughter!! AHHGGG!!!! i am not that old to know the slang of the kids now days. I am only 32. My daughter (step-daughter) is 15. So, here is my delemna. i could be that parent who forbids her to see him and then she stays with him to be rebelious to me and her mom, or I can PRETEND to like him and maybe she will dump him. This is very new to me!!! I am like most parents who think that no one is good enough for their kid, but my daughter scraped this guy out the bottom of the barrel. I need lots of luck on this!!!

Bad, Bad Weekend

What can you say about the Houston sports weekend? Not much. The Rockets lost, again. The Texans lost, again. NOT GOOD!!!!
The Rockets lost another lead against the Pistons on Saturday. At least it wasn't a big lead at the end of the third quarter like the games against T-Mac and Yao, did ok, but they had no help!!! Everyone else was in the single digits. This team is missing that spark. They are missing something. They play the Knicks tonight. Hopefully they can put something together and pull out a win.
The Texans must have been watching the Rockets last week. They played the same way. They had the lead and lost it with 9 freaking seconds left in the game. They made Losman and Evans look like probowl players. Petey Faggins was toast yesterday. He was burnt too many times. Out of Losmans 340 yards passing, Faggins was responsible for 265. Yes, it is a team sport, but everyone is responsible to do their part. He did not. The Defence played horrible in the first quarter and then when it really counted, the end of the game. Carr did ok. The INT he threw i think should have been caught. Clements just wanted the ball more than Johnson did. Congrats to Dunta Robinson on the well played INT that went for a TD. That was the only bright spot for the DB's. I hate that the team did ok for the most part, but they have nothing to show for it. All we can say is wait till next week. They are off now to go play the Jets.
At first, i was thinking they could beat the Jets. I am not so sure now. If the Texans were to have won yesterday's game, they would have had a good chance to be 8-8 this year. I was thinking wins over Buffalo, which came close. NYJ, Raiders, Titans, and Browns. I count on losses at New England and then home against the Colts. Its anybody's game any given Sunday, but at best now i predict maybe 2 more wins. You have to admit, this team is playing better than lasy year. Coach Kubiak is close to turning this thing around.
It was a crazy day in the NFL. I hate to see Bret Favre get hurt. He is one of my favorite all-time QB's in the NFL. Hopefully he gets the start next week. I feel bad for Donavon McNabb. He IS the heart and soul for the Eagles. That team is nothing now without him. There were a few upsets yesterday around the league. i think The Titans beating Philly was one, sorta. What do you expect without McNabb. The 49rs over Seattle was another upset. And then there is That game just north of here. The Cowboys over the overated Colts. I was in the middle here. I DO NOT LIKE THE COWBOYS!!! I don't care for the Colts. (I think because they always beat, no whip, the Texans). It's not like I really cared if the Colts went undefeated or not, I just hate it was the Cowboys who beat them. Now we have to hear Cowboy fan talk their mess. Way yo go, Colts!!!
What a game againt The Ohio State and Michigan. That game lived up to the billing!!! I have to admit, I was pulling for Michigan, not only because i am a fan, but because it would have been that feel good story because of the passing of their famed coach. But, I am sure even he appreciated the game it was although it went to the wrong team. Now they remain #2. Should they get another shot at the Buckeyes? It has the billing to be a hell of a game and I will be watching it on my HD.
Congrats to Jimmy Johnson for winning the Nextel Cup.
Congrats to Ryan Howard winning the NL MVP. I think he deserved it.
I hate to see Soriano sign with the cubs. There goes another big bat the Astros failed to get. It doesn't matter, because the Cubs won't win anyway.

What's Up With That?

What is going on with the Rockets? Is it that they are still getting used to each other? Is it just that they aren't that good of a team? WOW, nearly two games in a row they nearly blew a huge lead. 19 points and then 21. What is up with that? It is crazy!!! I was getting sick again. It reminds me of the championship teams the Rockets had when they kept blowing leads and barely winning. NO, I am not giving the Rockets a championship. I wish I could!!! This team needs more gelling. I still think they have a good team, but they need to finish games. Yao and T-Mac still had ok games, but Yao has seemed to cool off a bit after winning the NBA player of the week honors. And where is Bonzi? (EHHHHH...Ok, a bad Fonzi reference from old Happy Days re-runs.) I heard it best this morning from the morning show on Sports Radio 610, It may be two heads butting with Wells and Van Gundy. Van Gundy needs to realize that this team needs a spark off the bench and he has the guy who can do it. I need to start a "Where's Novak?" campaign. He is another guy who is a dead eye. I heard something about his defensive skills needing some polishing, but can he be much worse? All I know is, If this team doesn't do any thing this year, there are going to be a lot of disappointed Houston fans.

A Loss Before The Big Game

It is a sad day in the sports world. This morning I heard that Bo Schembechler had collapsed at a TV studio this morning. Life went on as usual. Work, phone calls, etc. I get back in the vehicle and I hear Jim Rome talking about the passing of the legendary coach. I was surprised. One of the phrases that you always hear after something like this is "it puts things in perspective." It is true. This game, Michigan at The Ohio State is a huge rivalry. As I am listening to the radio, I hear Rome taking calls from both sides of the rivalry. EVERYONE gave their condolences to the Wolverine family. It was The Ohio State being class acts and letting Michigan know they felt their loss. It wasn't only the Buckeyes though. I heard calls from many different college alumni. The game will go on. Both teams will play hard. I am sure the rivalry will go on. BUT, I am sure tomorrow will be a little different than most years. My condolences go out the the Wolverine family and to the family of Bo Schembechler.
